Garda Síochána
Historical Society
| |
The Garda Síochána Historical Society is a non-profit making organisation which was set up in response to requests from both members of the Garda Síochána and the public. On 20 January 1995, a meeting was held in the Garda Museum/Archives and the Garda Síochána Historical Society was born.
The Society's aim is to bring the history and traditions of policing in Ireland (especially the history of the Garda Síochána) into the public arena in an organised fashion. To this end, the Society organises lectures and exhibitions through out Ireland and also acts as a support service for the development of the Garda Museum/Archives. The first lecture (on Irish police uniforms) was given by Mr. Glenn Thompson.
